World Environment Day

The 5th of June has been assigned as the World Environment Day in 1972’s United Nations Environment Conference which was held in Stockholm.

The conditional changes of cities which expands due to the rapid industrialization, caused to increase problems. Pollution which became a common problem of all countries is treating the health of humanity. Vital progressions are taken place to increase the awareness for environment, to take precautions and to realize applications to set an example.

Local authorities, having this awareness in our country, are bringing it by starting awareness studies from early ages.

This year as Healthy Cities Association for bringing awareness, we started our “World Environment Day” event in Yusuf Köstem Elementary School, Osmangazi-Bursa. Muhsin Özlükurt, the deputy mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and İsmail Selimoğlu, the deputy mayor of Osmangazi Municipality have joined to the activity where made with about 250 student.

Deputy Mayor Özlükurt told, love of Environment should be planted at young ages and so Teachers and families have a great role in it. He also mentioned that we should keep clean the environment, trees are the most important agent preventing the pollution of air. The Mayor of the metropolitan municipality Recep Altepe told about their efforts to increase the amount. He also advised them to protect them and plant them in suitable places.

Deputy Mayor Muhsin Özlükurt awareded the one who answered every asked question correctly and he gave to 5 other sudents many presents. Later the books “Seed Book” and “Education Set of the environmentalist generation” have been given to ever each student in the hall. Plays, dans and Taekwondo shows were made during the events. The students of Özlüce Anatolian Highschool gave an concert.

The principal Hüseyin Avni Çat underlined that Bursa is one of the rare cities celebrating the World Environment Day. Çat, thanked to Recep Altepe, the Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Bursa and the head of the Healthy Cities Union.

Celebrations ended with the students crop planting ceramony.
